How DipCatcher scores a dip
Plain words, no formulas. Enough to judge what a verdict means, not enough to copy the engine.
1 · We only look at real dips
A stock or coin enters the picture when its price sits clearly below its own 6-week high (coins: 30-day high). The red percentage on the list is exactly that distance. It is not a loss and not a forecast.
2 · Six ingredients, one score
Four families of evidence, one score from 0 to 100: how deep the dip is, whether the fall shows signs of ending (a handful of bottom checks on price, momentum, trend and volume), the wider technical picture, and the catalysts. The bottom checks carry the most weight. The exact checks, weights and thresholds are ours and they change as we learn.
2b · Catalysts: news and earnings
Headlines of the last ten days are read and classified, then weighted by recency into one sentiment value. Catalysts do not move the score; they veto it. A report due within the next three days holds a four-star rating back until the numbers are out, and a serious company-specific headline caps a stock or coin at one star. The headlines and the earnings context are shown on the detail page so you can read them yourself.
3 · The verdict
Four stars: a real dip whose fall shows signs of ending, with a target clearly farther away than the stop, and a green traffic light. Five stars: the same with more of the bottom checks passed. Three stars: a real dip, but no bottom yet, or a bottom with a yellow or red traffic light. Two stars: no dip. One star: a serious company-specific headline. Coins get three stars at most. The stars describe the setup; they are not a recommendation to act. The verdict on the detail page you search is free, always.
4 · The gate: 8 independent checks
Before a signal counts, a second, independent engine runs 8 checks on it: does the wider market allow a rebound, do the indicators agree with each other, is the risk-to-reward sane, is volume confirming, is the data itself clean, and more. A signal that passes 8 of 8 is a strong setup. One that passes 4 is speculative. Pro users see the count and the rating.
5 · Every 4 hours, on trading days
Prices refresh every 15 minutes, the scoring runs every 4 hours, the gate 25 minutes later. Each signal is then tracked against real prices until it hits its target, its stop, or expires after 14 days. Those outcomes feed the next round.
The traffic light in hindsight
What became of earlier dips, by traffic-light colour? We ran the check retroactively on 2,903 stock dips (28/08/2024 to 24/06/2026), each time using only the data known on the day of the dip. We count how often the price got back to the 6-week high it had before the dip.

How good has the rating been so far?
We test every rule against past prices, using only the data known on each day. For today's rule (shares with a green traffic light) that gave about 300 buy ratings from 2024 to October 2026, roughly two a week. 56 % ended in profit within the 14-trading-day window, about one in three at the stop; on average a rating made +1.6 % before fees. For comparison, any share from our selection rose by 1.5 % on average over 14 trading days. To be honest: the rating mainly helps you pick the moment and see the risk in advance; it has not yet shown a clear lead over the market. Buy ratings for coins ended in a loss on average, so since 21 October 2026 coins get none. The backtest only contains securities listed today and falls into a mostly rising market; real results can be worse. The running track record of all real ratings is shown with every four- or five-star analysis.
