How DipCatcher scores a dip
Plain words, no formulas. Enough to judge what a verdict means, not enough to copy the engine.
1 · We only look at real dips
A ticker enters the picture when its price sits clearly below its own 30-day high. The red percentage on the list is exactly that distance. It is not a loss and not a forecast.
2 · Six ingredients, one score
The depth of the dip (30%), five bottom checks (40%): a higher low that holds, a close back above the last five closes, momentum turning up from oversold, the trend indicator improving two days in a row, and selling volume fading; the technical picture (20%) and the catalysts (10%). Together one score from 0 to 100. The exact thresholds are ours.
2b · Catalysts: news and earnings
Headlines of the last ten days are read, classified (beat, miss, guidance, upgrade, lawsuit, and more) and weighted by freshness into a sentiment score. Earnings dates and the last surprise against estimates add context: a report within three days holds a verdict back, a clear beat in the last ten days lifts it. Together they carry 30% of the score; the technical picture carries 70%. A black-swan headline caps any ticker at Avoid.
3 · The verdict
Buy: a dip of at least 7% from the 30-day high, at least 3 of 5 bottom checks, and a target at least 1.5 times as far away as the stop. Strong buy: the same with 4 checks and a high score. Watch: a real dip, but no bottom yet. Hold: no buyable dip. Avoid: a serious company-specific headline. The verdict is free for every ticker, always. Backtested over a year: about three buys a week, roughly every second one hits its target within 14 days.
4 · The gate: 8 independent checks
Before a signal counts, a second, independent engine runs 8 checks on it: does the wider market allow a rebound, do the indicators agree with each other, is the risk-to-reward sane, is volume confirming, is the data itself clean, and more. A signal that passes 8 of 8 is a strong setup. One that passes 4 is speculative. Pro users see the count and the rating.
5 · Every 4 hours, on trading days
Prices refresh every 15 minutes, the scoring runs every 4 hours, the gate 25 minutes later. Each signal is then tracked against real prices until it hits its target, its stop, or expires after 14 days. Those outcomes feed the next round.
