Return on equity (ROE)
How much profit a company makes with its owners' money.
Return on equity divides annual profit by equity. 15 % means 15 € of profit for every 100 € of equity.
A high ROE suggests an efficient business, but it can also come from heavy debt, because equity is then small. That is why the debt ratio is worth a look.
